This week in 3rd grade we are reading the companion story to Boom Town, Let's Trade.
In science we are finishing our study in fossils.
And in math we are in the last lessons in our unit with subtracting and rounding.
We just entered our second semester in third grade.
Please be aware your support is greatly appreciated for your student. This week we are testing. However, students have their regular homework schedule:
ELA: Boom Town in Treasures the skills and writing to persuade
Math: addition using measurements
Look at your students collaborate during math workshop.
ELA: Read What Should I do p. 244 in Treasures. Vocabulary: leaky, equipment, appliances, owners, constructions, project
Social Studies: Explorers in South Carolina. Vocabulary: motivations, explorers, missionaries, settlement, monarch, merchant
Mathematics: Rounding- lessons 13-15

Our class text for the week is "A Castle in Viola" p. 248 and "Homes for Families" p. 270 in our Treasures book. The vocabulary is leaky, construction, appliances, project, equipment, owners. The reading strategy is theme- the lesson the author wants the reader to learn.
We are studying how organisms get energy and change environments. We are using Science Studies Weekly this week instead of Studies Weekly.
Measurement using liters, grams and time.
This week at Killian: Book Fair Monday- Friday Literacy Night Thursday 6-7:20 p.m..
This week in class we will begin our complementary text to Earth Smart, Play Ball on p.68. It has the same vocabulary as last week. For mathematics we will be completing a mini-unit on time which will lead into our unit on measurement. For social studies we are learning about Native Americans who lived in South Carolina's regions.
The mathematics lessons are shown out of order. The correct order is lessons 13-15 then lessons 6-7.
